On October 10, EIT and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have signed an agreement for a joint Phd program.

CHEN Shiyi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a faculty member of EIAS and the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), and LIN Zhongqin, principal of Shanghai Jiaotong University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering signed the agreement on behalf of both sides. DING Kuiling, Executive Vice President of SJTU and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), XU Xuemin, Vice President of SJTU, WANG Yaguang, Dean of Graduate School & Director of Academic Degree Office of SJTU, EIAS leadership, and members of the Graduate School of EIAS attended the signing ceremony.

Both sides have an in-depth exchange of views on future collaborations and the joint training agreement for PhD program before the ceremony. At the ceremony, President LIN extended a warm welcome to Academician CHEN and his colleagues. He then gave a brief introduction of SJTU, especially its history, mission, key facts, and development plan. Professor WANG Yaguang, Dean of Graduate School of SJTU, in turn, introduced the admission conditions and main points of the agreement.

Academician CHEN responded by stressing that both parties have a shared vision. He then elaborate the background, planning, and progressing of EIAS. The establishment of bilateral or even multilateral cooperation is indeed very necessary and timely.The cooperation between the two sides is aimed to promote local development, connect the two regions, and make achievements that could play a vital role in independent innovative capabilities and core competitive edges of the nation, CHEN said.

President LIN expressed his hope that both sides would further strengthen comprehensive cooperation in the future, jointly build a platform for scientific and technological innovation, carry out in-depth cooperation in scientific research projects and make efforts to form landmark research results. Both sides will effectively integrate the talent training program with the needs of enterprises, thereby contributing to the economic and social development of both the region and the nation.
